Mitä yhteistä voimailulla ja roolipelaamisella on?

Tervehdys lukijat! Huumoria on ylipäätään kummassakin hommassa h

Pad a boom...  As you can see from the pictures, the winter is turning slowly but surely towards the spring time. Oh, the spring time. The flowers in bloom and hearts ticking like time-machine-bombs. And yet, here we are slipping and sliding on ice, marching through snow, suffering from the dark and the coldness that surrounds us.  Still, I am pretty sure and adamant that the spring is lurking there somewhere. In the shadows. Waiting for the right time. To jump out from the hide and strike us with the heat, bright light and things like that. Yeah! Woohoo! As You might have noticed, I joined the ranks of the Pocket Quest 2024 game design jammers. The theme is "Heists!" this year. I've been working on other things and suddenly it struck me that the deadline ain't the 29th of March. It is actually the 25th. Just when I realized that, I happened to remember that the Tampere Kuplii comic/cartoons festival is held this weekend.  So, basically, I shall be working on the ga

"Heist Ahoy!", here we go

Heist Ahoy, here we go  to the Pocket Quest ! This is already my third blog (here's the second ) text about the process and the progress of making mini TTRPG during the Pocket Quest 2024 jam. Pocket Quest is a thematic game development jam. This year's theme is "Heists!". And yes, I call my quirky little game Heist Ahoy!  On the official information material of Pocket Quest 2024, there are some suggestions for different kinds of heists to be used in the game you're making. I copy pasted at least some of it to my own sketch text file. Here's the list I used to make my brain go buzz buzz: " Pocket Quest jam in DriveThru Reverse heist:  Try to get out of a maze or challenging location Classic heist: Plan the perfect heist to get a prized possession Literal heist: Steal someone’s heart or memories Failed heist: All things go to plan until it doesn’t Detective Work: You’re trying to track down capers, and the

More about my work process in Pocket Quest 2024 jam

Hello You game makers, game readers, game jammers and  gamers!  In my earlier blog post , I told you about the Pocket Quest jam, and shared some real material I used to sketch the mainframe of my game. This time I shall be sharing more material on the progress of making a game for the jam. When I made the first sketch of the important parts of the island and the town, it was a major moment. The moment that broke the barriers and let me open my mind to creative mind-storming. This kind of mind mapping and listing of things, helps me to think better about the things I am making. What are the important elements? Is there something missing? Is there something too much? Usually thinking of the main places and the most important faces, helps me to get my engine whirring. Oftentimes, at that point, I don't think the wording or are the ideas worth it, I just list usable things. Things that feel and sound right. Right for the atmosphere. And that is what I shared in the earlier blog post .

Pocket Quest 2024 is here

Hello active readers, watchers, and viewers! Pocket Quest is a thematic annual game-designing jam, held by DriveThruRPG . This time the theme is "Heists!". Games submitted to the jam should be Rules Lite and the maximum page count is 25 pages. There are also some other rules, eg. no AI-created material allowed in the game. The Pocket Quest has available some Pocket Quest resource material and an art material package . Both are free. You can also get more ideas and information from the jam-running team. They have also their own discord page. So, it is pretty easy to get on the bandwagon. I try my best to make my own game for the Pocket Quest 2024. I am not so much into the theme of the year, but I love the jam concept, the resources, the look the style, and the joyously humorous art of the Pocket Quest. I am also digging the fact, that the jam is really professionally run. As an indie game creator, I am not spitting on chances to get cooperation, sincere help, and well-made
